The Psyclones, a long standing band with
a diverse sound ranging from punk/post-rock/synth-pop to electronic industrial/ambient
released their Greatest Hits (1981-1991 spanning over a decade of intensely rich,
enthusiastic music and lyrics that exemplify an era in their creative past. Those of you
who are still interested in the *sounds of the 80s* would probably really enjoy this
release a great deal.
Every track on this release is super. Sounds range from hardcore
punk/grunge/rock to industrial-core noise rock. Most of the tracks are very dance worthy.
The overall sound is heavy and harsh, "musical mayhem."
The whole of the CD is refreshingly innovative... albeit a step out of
the past. It *definitely* has the sound and feel of the 80s music. Tracks include music
that is jazzy and punk driven, (Stuck In A Rut, Electric Tone, Gift Of
Noise, As One, Our Song), synth pop/ rock, (The Song With No Name,
live in San Francisco 1985, Impromptu), as well as a taste of experimental, (Between
Space Childish Beginnings, Tribulation, Art Decade, Ancient
Age,), as well as industrial/rock blends (Bloodsucker, Move!, ) and war
awareness, (Rocking The Cong), "Viet Nam... will never rest."
If you have never heard of or heard The Psyclones you are
really missing a lot! This release is a great way to get acquainted with their music. The
Greatest Hits brings us some of their best work, as well as a view back into the music and
feel of the 80s. If you were lucky enough to see The Psyclones perform, you must have had
a great time.
