Are You Receiving?
Ever since the first beat was dropped,
Danielle "DC" Cunningham, the smarmy, daring solo project known as Shortwave,
has gone full force on the electronic music front. Born of the desire to make some
funky-ass music, Shortwave has been busy ever since, tweaking knobs, distorting basslines,
and pushing levels as high as the sun to create aural hallucinations and kickin' grooves.
The first Shortwave record, "Stinking", was made and distributed locally in
hopes of finding some like- minded people to work with, but that didn't happen. So, she
decided to go it alone- writing, recording, mixing and producing all of her own material-
turning out "Talking Box", which contained the radio hit "BUKS",
followed by "Madder Replicator", "Formless", "Regenerated",
"Shanked", and now "Are You Receiving?". And when she's not busy
recording for Shortwave and Even I Have Siezures, DC does vocal tracks for Uncle Buzz and
Pink Filth.
Track Listing
1. Wait. Video
2.. Wait. Extended Version
3. Tripping On The Way Home.
4. DC.5
Supporting the recent release of the
Shortwave Video "Wait", comes this extended EP with a hearty dose of bass,
dreamy synth work and fabulous melody in "Wait", Extended Version. Likewise
equally mello with more drum & bass, charming and gentle female vocals intertwined
with sub-melodic piano and synth is "Tripping On The Way Home." Including
a little more experimentation in DC.5 with synth, bass and a steady dance beat, this is by
no means *pop* music, but more of a sauve jazz influenced piece of work.
"Shortwave" has done it again with this delicious chapter in their creative
evolution. This EP is great music with which to chill-out and watch the video.
