Programmed,
remastered, and produced by Philip Easter, tracks on "Dismembering Artists" were
originally sampled and recorded in 1991. That was quite a long time ago to be doing this
type of music...which is termed by Malignant Records to be "Ambient/Industrial."
Just take a look at the coverart, which *screams* industrial. I agree with that
term for the most part, however after hearing this release, I would add "Noise"
to that description. Subgenres of Noise have been ever-growing, so ammending that term
would be to include, "Dismembering Artists."
By now you might be wondering what this release actually sounds like?
There are elements of crashing reverb, harsh guitar (sampled and probably tweeked by
Philip to a near excruciating limit), loops of clicking and pounding bass/percussion, yet
there are also elements of chugging undertones, noisy and offensive sonic blasts and
textures, and buzzing drifts.
What is really interesting about the style of SGS's work is the effort
in Easter's combining all these samples to create small and temporary bursts of near chaos
within a track which holds the overall theme of the piece as unique and rather
disturbingly omnipresent and cohesive. Sampling genius at its finest, Stone Glass Steel is
a release worthy to be in your player if you enjoy industrial assult techniques in
sound sampling and programming.
