Oh, OK, so THIS is where great dark, dancy electronic music went! I was beginning to wonder if it's a requirement for dark, gothic electronic music to SUCK. Apparantly not. Amid all the crap I've heard, this definitely makes wading through it all worth it.
This CD is absolutely amazing. Dreamy soundscapes and soft vocals punctuate the mind-boggling compositional and orchestral elements of this release. The Swelling Soul consists of Michael Ellinger, vocalist/songwriter, and Linda Murdough, vocalist/musician. Together they create pure soul music. The voices and lyrical content are stunning and serve
as a fantastic answer to the incredible music. (yay adjective fun)
I know I'm probably beating a dead horse, but it is absolutely incredible. Every song stands on its own. Styles range from the slow and soothing to dark and aggressive. The semblance and structure held throughout the whole CD is very tight. The emotion in the music is startling and very deep. Hard to make real comparisons...this is basically what darkwave and gothic/dancy/techno influenced music *should be*. Nothing gets cliched or boring - sounds range from light piano and harpsichord to dark, spacey pads and Linda's classically trained voice. Absolutely beautiful.
