Fathom Records, the ambient sublabel of Hearts of Space, is honored to announce that On This Planet by Steve Roach, has been given the INDIE award for Best Electronic/Ambient Album of the Year by the Association For Independent Music (AFIM).
Steve Roach has been cultivating his deep tribal ambient sounds for nearly two decades, during which he has issued over 20 recordings under his own name and in collaboration with artists such as Michael Shrieve, Robert Rich, Vidna Obmana, and Jorge Reyes. On This Planet is a suite of meditations and tribal gatherings one bleeding seamlessly into the next that is positively electric with on-the-edge energy of the live moment.
AFIM (formerly known as NAIRD) was founded in 1972 by a handful of labels and distributors. The group initially focused on independent distribution. Today priorities have expanded to include stimulating growth and promoting the independent recording industry.

The INDIE Awards, established in 1978, recognize artistic excellence among  members. Past winners include recordings by such well known artists as Sugar, Burning Spear, Naughty By Nature, Professor Longhair, Kate Wolf, Leon Redbone, Queen Latifah, Richard Thompson, Holly Near, James Cotton, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Allison Krauss, George Winston, Frank Zappa, Robert Cray, and many more.
Hearts of Space, through it’s five sublabels, offers contemporary spacemusic, Celtic, cross-cultural, ambient, and contemplative recordings by musicians from around the world. The company’s weekly radio program, Music from the Hearts of Space, has been heard since 1983 on over 300 public radio stations nationwide.
